Smooth Collie Club of Great Britain Championship Show 13th October 2024

I wish to start by sincerely thanking the SCC of GB for giving me the opportunity to live out a long-held dream to judge my own breed in its Country of Origin. I only wish this had happened about 20 – 25 years ago when the numbers and quality of Smooths was so much greater, and when my health was so much better. I had longed to judge those dogs from the past, whose names and pedigrees had filled my head for so many years.

I must apologise to those in charge, and those who entered their dogs under me, for not being able to give this judging appointment all that I really wished to do. Recent foot surgery and an ongoing issue with my back meant that some pain medications were required to enable me to complete the appointment. I deeply appreciated those who chose to enter their dogs, and I am so glad that you decided to support the Club with your entries.

Puppy Dog (2, 0)
1st Hayward’s WYNELE DOUBLE TROUBLE AT FOXEARTH. 11 month old Sable & White dog, well up in size. He still needs to drop into his body and fill out. Correct head planes with a good eye, excellent ear set giving a pleasant expression. A very good length of neck, correct coat texture and colour. Once he settled on the move, his long legs powered him around the ring.
2nd Howard & Fort’s SHULUNE IMPERIAL INKHEART WITH CASATENTOLA. 12 month old Blue Merle boy that appeals with a well-balanced body. Very good ear set which he used to advantage, but with a broader back skull, his head was less balanced than #1. I would prefer a more almond shaped eye and a longer neck. His blue coat colour carries more white than I prefer, but the texture is excellent for his age. He moved out well and enjoyed his run around the ring.

Junior Dog (2, 0)
1st Metcalf’s KOCZKODAN WELL I NEVER. 16 month old Tricolour. Another boy well up in size. His markings making him look tall with long legs. He also needs to drop into his body and fill out. With a wide back skull and low set ears, he lacked the expression of #2, but won this class on his movement.
2nd Hayward’s WYNELE DOUBLE TROUBLE AT FOXEARTH.

Post Graduate Dog (3, 0)
1st Leavesley’s LIZONI LONE RANGER. Nearly 2 year old Tricolour boy who was a bit full of himself today. With good eye and ear placement, his head was very pleasing. I would like a little more length of neck, and although a little feminine in body shape and size, he moved with purpose and a happy wagging tail.
2nd Howe’s LIZONI THE DRIFTER. 21 month old, Tricolour I now know to be brother of #1, although both dogs seemed quite different. This boy has more size than #1, but lacked the head and expression, due to his rounder eye and lower ear set. A strong neck led into a balanced body. Like his brother he moved out well, although I would prefer a better front. I particularly loved the temperament on these 2 boys.
3rd Manordeifi Rock On.

Limit Dog (4, 0)
1st French’s BRECKAMORE ALL GUNS BLAZING. 2 year old Blue Merle large upstanding dog of old-fashioned style. His head was well balanced, but I would prefer a darker eye and slightly less stop. He carries correct ear set, a well arched neck leading into correctly shaped, and balanced body. The coat colour and texture were correct. He moved soundly around the ring.
2nd Seager’s BLAMORDER MAGIC MAKER WITH FREEJACK JW. 2 year old Sable and White male of solid construction, every bit a boy. A well chiselled head with correctly placed ears. I would prefer a better eye. Not quite balanced in body, with a long second thigh. I absolutely love his coat texture and colour. He powered around the ring.
3rd Wynele Strike One

Open Dog (5, 1)
1st Sewell’s CH WYNELE STRIKE IT RICH TO LEWARNE JW. 2 year old Tricolour, although smaller in size, he presented a well balanced outline which I loved. With correct dark eyes and a sweet expression. Correctly arched neck led into well laid shoulders, a very good depth of chest and correct hindquarter angulation. I loved his happy nature, and he definitely looked fabulous on the move.
2nd Martin’s STURTMOOR ARCEUS’S LEGACY JW. Just 16 months old, Sable and White boy who needs to settle. Another with excellent head proportions. Would prefer a better eye. A very good body shape with an excellent coat. His feet need to tighten up and his brain needs to click into gear, but he has the makings of an excellent dog.
3rd Ch/Ir Ch Constella Hazy Cosmic Jive JW

Veteran Dog (3, 1)
1st Smith’s CH/MULTI CH WINTER IS COMING TO TENTOLA. 8 ½ year old Blue Merle dog with a happy temperament. A strong head with well placed ears and good depth of muzzle. Carrying a deep body shape, he presented well with a pleasing coat. He pulled a lot on the lead when moving, which gave him stilted movement.
2nd Lusty’s BLAMORDER BRING HIM HOME. 8 year old Tricolour showing his age. Smaller in stature but of excellent shape with very good coat and condition. An excellent head shape, and he moved well. I just would have liked more of him.

Minor Puppy Bitch – no entries
Puppy Bitch (2, 0)
1st Cole & Fort’s SHULUNE IMPERIAL RUM PUNCH. 11 month old Tricolour girl that caught my eye as soon as I saw her. With excellent head proportions and sweet expression. She carried a balanced body of great construction, hitting the ground running, she just floated around the ring. Another with a super temperament.
2nd Rundle’s SHULUNE IMPERIAL BONNY BLU. 11 month old Blue Merle, which I now know is a sister to #1. Although bigger in size, she was similar in style, with an excellent head and expression. She could do with a better front, which hopefully may improve as she develops. She needs to settle on the move.

Junior Bitch – no entries
Post Graduate Bitch (2,2)
Limit Bitch (4, 1)
1st Jerrett’s COLDELEE ETERNAL SUNSHINE JW. 2 ½ year old Sable & White girl with correct eye and sweet expression. She presented with a well-balanced body. I particularly liked her nice tight feet and loved her coat colour and condition. She moved well out and back.
2nd Howard’s SHANDLMAIN’S SOFISTIKATE. 4 year old Tricolour, smaller in size, but very well put together and in excellent condition. Just not quite the expression of #1 and her ear set could be better. Movement was a little stilted.
3rd Koczkodan Sweet Dreams of Lizoni

Open Bitch (7, 1)
1st Sweeney & Lusty’s CH BLAMORDER DO QUITE NICELY AW(B). 5 year old Blue Merle beautiful girl in excellent condition with a very good expression. Correct head planes, but slightly broader in back skull than I prefer. Very good use of ears and very attentive to her handler. Lovely balanced body which showed when she moved, keeping a steady topline.
2nd Holmes & Lusty’s CH BLAMORDER MAKERS MARK JW. 2 year old Sable and White girl, of bigger size than #1. A stronger head, but with correct eye placement, and better ear placement than #1, giving a more balanced head with very good expression. Her well arched neck led into a pleasing body shape. Great coat colour and condition and she moved out well.
3rd Ch Brackenhaye Queen of Hearts of Oakestelle

Veteran Bitch (6, 1)
1st Benton’s OAKSTELLE ARTEMIS ShCEx. 7 year old Blue Merle of really super shape and size. Excellent head planes with a dark eye and correctly placed ears, giving her a sweet expression. Well arched neck leading into a very good front, and balanced body. Very attentive to her handler and a pro on the move, floating around the ring. With an excellent temperament, she presented with the correct coat texture and blue colour, but sadly carried more white markings than I prefer. Despite this in all other respects she fitted the standard and therefore deserved the win.
2nd Denton’s CH BRACKENHAYE SHAPE O’MY HEART. 8 ½ year old Tricolour of a more old-fashioned style. A bigger girl, but well balanced. Very good head planes with correct ear placement which she used to advantage. I would like a slightly better eye. Showing correct angulation in both fore and hind quarters, her movement was very good. Excellent coat and condition.
3rd Ch Blamorder Ice Cream Dream
